Small boutique coffee shop with plenty of space to meet-up with friends or get some work done.

Coffee and food is made with great care, from pastries to sandwiches.

Great place if you like to avoid the chain coffee shops or recent rise of "marketing concept" shops.

    Closes at 6pm!

Like most white girls in their early 30s I love me a boutique coffee shop.  If I want to post up for a bit and knock out some paperwork I also love a comfortable atmosphere and plenty of options for snacks, treats, and/or breakfast.  So often, the coffee shops I go to are very modern and sterile with only a few select menu items that seem to repeat themselves from shop to shop - you know what I mean, the white frosted and sprinkled Do-Rite doughnut, the same seeded scone, and avocado toast with pickled onions.

Fabcakes is truly one-of-a-kind.  It's quiet, romantic, displays a wonderful array of artwork from local artists and has the proper decibel on the radio.  Oh, and it's tuned in to a classic, soft rock station that keeps your mood both positive and upbeat.  I almost felt like I was in another neighborhood or country based on how distinctive the ambiance is: love, love, LOVE!

Ok - food and coffee.  I love a sweet treat, especially a scone. Mixed fruit? Plum?  How wonderful that there were unusual options available.  I took what appeared to be the owner's recommendation and opted for the plum.  First off, this scone look like it grew up next to a Nuclear power plant so I knew I'd be satisfied vs. leaving still hungr...but the perfect buttery crust met the subtle sweet plum inside and, let me tell you, it was a little slice of Heaven!  Iced latte was a 5/5 and all for 8$.  This was beyond reasonable given the prices at other local shops and I even added a tip given the exceptional service, quality of food, comfort, and for the fact that I think the owner does it all here...makes the drinks each day from scratch, runs the food to your table, and can provide a robust description of the various items featured on the menu.  Bang out job Fabcakes...I'm about to be here on the REG!

Visiting Chicago, I awoke in my hotel room next to Lake Michigan craving pastries. I decided to take an almost 2 mile walk to this place after finding it on Yelp. A very scenic path and off the tourist trap, Fabcakes is a small and modern pastry shop featuring breakfast sandwiches, coffees, and of course, pastries.
Because I'm a tourist I decided to splurge and get their lemon scone, a breakfast wrap, and an almond mocha. A local saw me exploring the menu and directed me toward the lemon scone.
When it came out, it was warm and falling apart with the fork - that perfect flakiness from a fresh pastry. Absolutely delicious.
But wait for it - the wrap came out, it looked very gourmet, and the tomato married with the ham was just...whoa.
    Highly recommend.

Super cute and tidy neighborhood coffee shop that offers a large breakfast and lunch menu with sandwiches, salads, French toasty, yogurt parfait and loads of fresh sweet and savory baked treats. No Diet Coke but that's ok- I'm trying to quit. Got an iced coffee and a berry crumble today but I'll definitely come back for a proper meal soon.

Vanilla rose latte is my jam. They only have the Fig and Cheese on Monday's. I got the mixed fruit cheesecake and it was delish. Really friendly people. I was indecisive on what pastries to get and the staff were really helpful and so nice about it.
